An adult Disneyland, a bold experiment in the way contemporary art is displayed, a temple to sex and death or one man's obsessive folly—David Walsh's Museum of Old and New Art in Hobart has become the most talked-about gallery in the country. It opened with the local art world's most lavish party in January and the visitors have just kept coming since then, more than 200,000 according to the gallery. So what is MONA's appeal and can it be sustained? Amanda Smith is in conversation with artistic director Juliana Engberg, philosopher John Armstrong and artist Peter Hill.

David Walsh's Museum of Old and New Art in Hobart has become the most talked-about gallery in the country and is attracting thousands of visitors from all around the world. But is it any good?
Join philosopher John Armstrong; Artistic Director at the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, Juliana Engberg; and artist Dr Peter Hill in a debate about MONA, art, and value at the Wheeler Centre in Melbourne on Thursday July 14 at 6pm.
The discussion will be hosted by Amanda Smith, presenter of ABC Radio National's Artworks program, and will launch Island magazine's new MONA issue. It also contains Peter Hill's memoir, "One and Three Flashbacks" on the influence of Joseph Kosuth's conceptual practices on his own work, as well as their interview about Kosuth's recent installation at ACCA, based on Beckett's Waiting for Godot.
