Govanhill Baths Community Trust Auction

There is a unique opportunity to view and buy rare work from 16 leading contemporary artists at an auction in the South Side of Glasgow from March 17-19.

Winners and nominees in the Turner and Becks Futures prizes are among artists to donate pieces for the Baths Auction to support the Govanhill Baths Community Trust. Artworks in the live auction will be exhibited for three days alongside the work of more than 40 local artists who are taking part in a parallel silent auction over the three days of the show.

The event has drawn major support from international artists, many of whom have strong links with the Govanhill area, including Nathan Coley who learned to swim at Govanhill Baths.

Unique pieces available at auction include Toby Paterson’s maquette for his work, Elementbau and a Jonathan Monk and Douglas Gordon sketch for their show, Double Act Repeated, hand-painted by the artists.

Auctioneer Gavin Strang of Lyon and Turnbull will preside over the live auction at 7pm March 19, inside the main pool of the baths.

The sale will include work from: Lucy Skaer, Nathan Coley, Toby Paterson, Jonathan Monk & Douglas Gordon, Sam Ainsley, Claire Barclay, Kate Davis, Alan Michael, Nick Evans, Ilana Halperin, Jane Topping, Ross Collins, Lorna Macintyre, Erica Eyres, Sigga Bjorg Gigurdardottir.

The Baths Auction exhibition opens at 7pm on Thursday March 17, with viewing from 10 am to 6 pm on Friday 18 and Saturday 19.

Opening bids for items in the Silent Auction start at £20.

Entry is free to the exhibition and sale which mark the tenth anniversary of the campaign to restore the Edwardian swimming pool and baths.

It comes as the Trust completes moves to return to the building and begin the first stage of restoring it to public use.
